Introduction

In the next forty years we will be adding three billion more people to the world's population and almost all of them will be living in shanty cities. Children are already dying from preventable disease; Teenagers are finding hope in the clutches of crime and terror; Mothers and Fathers are becoming victims of unimaginable suffering as they raise their families in extreme poverty with little hope of escape.

Here in the "developed" world people are loosing their loved ones to violence; parents are loosing their children to gangs; and social problems are rife.

It doesn't have to be this way.

The technology and the social and economic expertise to solve all of the worlds major challenges already exists. Many solutions (complex and simple) have been identified that can quickly relieve the suffering of very many people. Environmental, social and economic wealth, supporting affluent and abundant lifestyles beyond our imagination is within the realms of possibility if we choose to accept it.
